Qi® Charging

Qi® (pronounced Chee) is an open wireless charging standard that uses resonant inductive coupling to transfer power. This is the standard used by mobile phones and is readily available. Subsonus Tag is compatible with most standard Qi® chargers.

Qi® Charger Alignment

Subsonus Tag must be placed on a charging pad with the screen facing up and the centre of the charging pad in line with the centre of the screen, see Subsonus Tag Charger Alignment.

When charging, Subsonus Tag will turn on its backlight. This will then fade between two brightnesses. It may take a few seconds to start charging, once placed on the charging pad.

Care should be taken to ensure the Subsonus Tag remains centred on the charger, especially when charging on a moving vessel.

Qi® Charging Rate

Subsonus Tag can fully charge in 6 hours when charged with the 5 Watt charger. There are conditions that will cause Subsonus Tag to charge at a lower rate, such as high temperature, misalignment of the coil, or insufficient power available from the charger. Subsonus Tag will display the charging rate as well as the estimated charge time on its screen, see Subsonus Tag Charger Alignment.

Qi® Charger Power Supply

The supplied Qi® charger cannot provide full charge rate unless powered by an appropriate power supply, such as the one provided. A laptop USB port is not suitable and will only be capable of charge Subsonus Tag at a maximum 1W, drastically increasing charge time.
